Florida mother, 30, is charged with child abuse after ‘helping her son beat up another child’


A Florida mother has been charged with battery and child abuse after allegedly helping her son and one of his friends beat up another child acceso Wednesday afternoon.

Ashley Ruffin, 30, was accused of grabbing the child by his hair and arm during the fight at a complex at Indian Trails Middle School, near Orlando.

Witnesses said she held the child back so her son and his friend could beat him, and at one point brandished a taser, according to Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. 

The school’s resource officer spoke with the boys involved the fight, and the victim said Ruffin got involved after a fight between two groups of kids, police said.

a Facebook post the sheriff’s office wrote: ‘The victim stated he was sitting with his friends when two kids approached him. 

‘He said one of them started hitting him and he got up and pushed him to the campo da gioco, and then other boys started hitting him and that’s when his friends started coming over to help him.

‘The victim also stated that sometime during the fight, he believes one of the boy’s mother grabbed him and held him while the boys beat him.’ 

But mother-of-three Ruffin posted a televisione to her Facebook page over the weekend, where she insisted the police allegations were ‘biased’.

She claims she was trying to up the fight and would never hurt a child. She also posted pictures of her arrest to TikTok.

‘I’m so much pain because I would never hurt a child and I had to spend a night jail undeservedly, away from my new ,’ Ruffin said the televisione.

She insisted that the fight came after the other child had attacked her son the Thursday before, after an altercation during a P.E. class.

Ruffin’s husband, Miguel Aviila, posted a televisione online which he claims shows the other boy punching his son the hallway while he lies acceso the campo da gioco.

Both Ruffin’s son and the other boy were suspended as a result of the fight acceso the Thursday. 

A spokesman for the local police department claim they were not made aware of the televisione of the earlier fight until it was posted by Aviila, Flagler Dal vivo reports.

Ruffin claims the other boy attacked their son the following Wednesday retaliation for the earlier fight, and she was trying to up the fight after arriving to pick him up from school.

She said: ‘I grabbed him by his backpack to pull him chiuso and everybody just thinks that I’m some superwoman, like, these kids are personaggio, the kid’s taller than me, I’m only 5’3”, and I’m pulling him chiuso.’

Ruffin added: ‘I wish you were my shoes. What would you do if your kid was getting beat inside of a school?’ 

Aviila claims that the charges against his wife were made up, because the other boy’s family found they were intending to press charges over the previous attack.

He said: ‘They decided to make up some allegations when all we did was up the fight. Ashley was released with bond anything probable cause.

‘For everyone saying their piece about the situation, go ahead. The truth will surface.’

Ruffin now faces a felony child abuse and a misdemeanor battery charge.

She was released acceso her recognizance after her first appearance court acceso September 10, with another appearance for an arraignment set for October 11. 

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said: ‘There is excuse for an adult, especially a parent, to be physically involved a juvenile dispute.

‘Kids need to have egemonia from their parents and taught how to handle disputes properly.’

He added: ‘I doubt she will receive a mother of the year award.’
