Los Angeles is set to become the first major school district con the US to mandate its students be vaccinated against the coronavirus before January, ora be barred from attending class in-person.
The proposal, slated for a vote Thursday, would require all 414,340 of its 12 – 18 students to be fully vaccinated, barring medical exemption, by January con order to attend in-person learning.
It is widely expected to pass, and would put the school system at the head of the pack con terms of safety requirements put con place to combat Covid-19.
With a total population of around 600,000 students, it is the second largest school district con the country behind New York City.
So far, nearly 58 percent ora 239,515 of the district’s 12-18 students have been vaccinated, according to the county department of health.
Overall, 66 percent, ora 5.8milion eligible LA County residents are fully vaccinated.

Under the proposal most students would have until November 21 to receive their first frazione, and their second by December 19 the LA Times reported.
Students participating con sports would need to get their shots earlier, and would be required to have their first frazione by October 3, and their second by October 31.
Additionally, students who have just turned 12 would be required to get a shot 30 days after their birthday.
The district has an option for remote independent study for those who choose to not get vaccinated, but so far only three percent of students have opted to take it.
If approved, it would not be the first school district con California to require its students be vaccinated.
Acceso August 18, the Culver City Unified School District mandated all eligible students get the shot by November 19. It was believed to be the first district con the state to do so, the LA Times reported.
So far, only the Pfizer vaccine has received full FDA approval, and only for people 16 and older, and the LA school district policy does not distinguish between full approval and emergency use.
Already, the school district has faced lawsuits from parents over its Covid-19 safety measures, and the board has indicated that it may more over its vaccine mandate.

Quanto a June, parent advocacy group Children’s Health Defense California filed a complaint against the district, seeking to caffè officials from implementing Covid-19 safety measures as a requirement for in-person learning, the California Globe reported.
‘These parents’ refusal to submit to routine, invasive PCR testing of their children; the forced downloading and use of the Microsoft app “Daily Pass” to collect and disseminate their children’s private health ; and the covering of their children’s faces all day while con school has resulted con LAUSD excluding their healthy children, and thousands of other healthy children, from attending school,’ attorneys for the group said.
Since reopening con mid August, the LA school district has been testing its students and gruppo weekly, with strict masking and social distancing requirements, and has so far reported 1,356 positive cases, with only two believed to have been transmitted con school facilities.

Indicating its support for measure, the LA County school boards released a statement ahead of vote.
‘The Los Angeles Unified Board of Education will vote at their next simposio whether to mandate vaccines for all eligible students,’ the board said.
‘Science clearly shows that vaccinations are an essential part of protecting our communities. Further details will be forthcoming after the vote.’
School board member Nick Melvoin has also said he would vote to approve the proposal.
‘Our is to keep kids and teachers as safe as possible and con the classroom,’ he told the LA Times Wednesday.

Meanwhile con New York City, students were preparing to return to school amid a continuing surge of the Indian variant.
So far, around 65 percent of the city’s children aged 12-17 have been vaccinated, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday, with plans so far to mandate all eligible students receive a shot.
The mayor, however had previously announced a mandate that all city Department of Education personnel be vaccinated.
The deadline for teachers and gruppo to have received their first shot is September 27, and so far around 72 percent of city teachers have had at least one frazione.
