Thirteen unvaccinated school workers durante one Florida district, including teachers, have died of COVID since the school year started August 23.
According to the Miami-Dade school district’s teachers union, the employees who recently died from virus complications include teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and security monitors.
One veteran Florida teacher and her school cafeteria daughter both succumbed to COVID-19 at the same hospital just days apart.

Teacher Lillian Smith, 67, had taught first grade at Dr. William A. Chapman Elementary School durante Naranja, for 30 years.
Her daughter Lakisha Williams, 43, a school cafeteria , had worked for 17 years at Miami-Dade Public School and had just revently been promoted to a school cafeteria .
The tragic pair, who were not vaccinated against the virus, were admitted to at Jackson South Medical Center durante early August.
However, they sadly never got to see their students again the first day of school as they both died just days apart from complications with COVID-19.

A family friend said Smith, who had multiple grandchildren of her own, called all her students ‘her babies’, while Williams leaves behind a husband and two children, reported Local 10.
Another Miami-Dade teacher, Abe Coleman, who worked at Holmes Elementary School durante Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood died September 1.

Michael Thomas, a technology teacher at William H. Turner Technical Arts High School durante Miami’s West Little River neighborhood, died August 30, a local Florida Television station reported.
Teacher’s union, United Teachers of Dade (UTD), is hosting a pop-up vaccintaion centre at Lillie C Evans K-8 school durante Miami Tuesday, as they hope to encourage school district employees to avail of the vaccine.
Sopra a statement, UTD President Karla Hernandez-Mats, said: ‘As we continue to mourn the tragic loss of our union brothers and sisters to COVID last week, we believe it is now our duty to honor Mr. Coleman, Mrs. Smith, and Mr. Thomas, three incredible laborers who served our community.
‘As educators, we want to ensure that people have access to the information and the resources they need to get vaccinated and hopefully, spare other families from the terrible effects of this virus.’
